A few route options of varying steepness are available. No scrambling or exposed sections need to be negotiated. A good testing trail run.
The saddle (820 m) is the easiest point to get to for breath-taking views over the Banhoek and Jonkershoek valleys. Starting at the Jonkershoek reserve gate we wind our way through the MTO forests on good trails and / or forestry roads. The view behind us of Jonkershoek gets better and better as we climb, with Table Mountain and Lions Head appearing on the skyline when we are about half way up.
Above the memorial bench we follow the jeep track through mountain fynbos for the last little bit. A fantastic view of the Banhoek Valley and distant Franschhoek Mountains (and often a welcome cool breeze) greets us as we pop onto the crest.
We usually try to follow a slightly different route on the way down making use of the numerous excellent single track trails.
