Fantastic views of Stellenbosch and the Cape Peninsula, within the reach of anyone who doesn’t mind a little sweat.
From the sports fields at Coetzenburg we head up onto “Bergpad” – the dirt road along the mountain overlooking Stellenbosch very popular as a daily run / cycle route for the many active residents of this beautiful town. Higher up we turn onto a hiking trail which zigzags its way up the steep lower slopes of Stellenbosch Mountain. At most times of year this trail is lined by bright fynbos flowers.
The mast sits just past the first (of many) “false summits” on this route up Stellenbosch Mountain, and makes for an excellent turn-around point when you don’t have the time or energy to get to the main summit. On a clear day the views of False Bay, Table Mountain, the Cape Peninsula and the Winelands from here are hard to beat!
