A gradual climb on good trails. Suitable for the whole family.
Swartboskloof is a beautiful valley leading up to an incredible view point over False Bay. We drive a couple of kilometers into the Jonkershoek Nature Reserve and start walking immediately on a beautiful hiking trail. Brightly colored fragrant fynbos flowers line the trail at most times of the year. Much of the trail is shaded until lunchtime making this a great route for a hot summers day.
The climb gets steeper towards the top and the summit is slightly further than you expect, but a well-designed trail keeps the gradient manageable and the view when you reach the top is well worth the effort!
A well-earned snack break is highly recommended at the viewpoint before we return via the same trail. If time allows we can take a detour half way down, incorporating a beautiful contour path which traverses through ancient mountain forests and beneath cool misty waterfalls, before returning to the vehicles via Sosyskloof.
For those wanting a more demanding day out, it is possible to link Swartboskloof to the Panorama Route and descend via either Kurktrekkersnek or Bergriviernek.
