A steep hike requiring the odd use of a hand or two but no difficult or sustained scrambling.
Stellenbosch Mountain (1167 m) can be climbed from trails starting at Coetzenburg Sports Grounds, Assegaaibosch Nature Reserve near Jonkershoek, or from Paradyskloof on the Somerset West side of town. A circular walk using two of these options is recommended for maximum diversity (and a pick-up can be arranged to cut off a few kilometers around the bottom to get back to our starting point).
Which ever route it taken we will experience beautiful fynbos, and breathtaking views! Sharp eyes may spot dassies (rock hyrax), klipspringers and a number of special fynbos bird species (eg. Cape Sugarbird, Orange-breasted Sunbird and Protea Seedeater).
